Foundation Governor
My name is Daphne Sherwood and I moved to West Hill from Watford in 2013 with my late husband John, who was a Governor for the Federation for several years. I am a member of Tipton St John Church and sing in the Church choir.
I was a Chartered Librarian in London public libraries, working for 3 different authorities in various posts, starting as a Children’s Librarian and ending up as a Senior Manager with responsibility for Staff Management and Development. I gained a Masters Degree in Management in 2001. I volunteered to join the Governing Board when they were looking for someone with my staff management experience, having previously volunteered at Tipton School, listening to the children reading.
I also have 2 daughters from my first marriage who both work in education. I have 3 grandsons, two at Secondary school, and one about to start his final year in Primary, who all love to come and visit. John and I have 2 children, a son who works for a local industrial supplies company and plays in the Sidmouth Town Band and a daughter who works for an online educational resource company in Edinburgh and is a published poet.
In addition to the Church Choir, I sing with the Ottery St Mary Choral Society. I like watching cricket and enjoy the wildlife which visit our garden. I also make (and ice) cakes and love entertaining our family, who usually all visit en masse.
